About

The Disabled Sailing Association is a Torquay- based sailing charity which offers safe and affordable sailing for the disabled. Our aim is to give everybody, no matter their disability, the opportunity to enjoy the experience of sailing around our beautiful coastline in a safe and friendly environment. Whether you have sailed before or not, it doesn’t matter, just come along and join in the fun. We can accommodate wheelchairs and the boats have been adapted to make it easy to board for those will mobility challenges. The health and well being benefits of being on the water with us are reflected in the positive feedback we constantly receive from our guests.

This year we were privileged to receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service which is a testament to the 70+ volunteers that help to sail and maintain our two lovely yachts, manage our finances, focus on safeguarding and safety and provide administrative support. The media coverage we enjoyed with this award has been invaluable in helping us to reach out to more disability groups and individuals.

A typical day starts at 10.30 and we return to berth in Torquay Town Dock at around 3.30. We may go out to Berry Head to spot dolphins or head around to Babbacombe bay and anchor up for a relaxing lunch. We also visit Brixham harbour if you fancy stretching your legs and visiting the local gift shops. We offer half day and evening sails with a fish and chip supper if you want to see the sun set. If you fancy a slightly longer sail then we regularly head around Dartmouth and into Agatha Christie country.

If all this sounds good, then please head over to our website and join up (you must be a member to sail with us) and complete the contact form and one of our admin team will contact you and send the membership form and book your first sail.

We look forward to seeing you on the water.
